The Crafty Conjurer

Abandoning the realms of natural magic, the Sorcerer digs deep into the heart of arcane magic. They are a non-elemental, utility focused mage, and their studies make for a very mana efficient spellcaster, with still enough arcane knowledge to pack a punch when needed.

Sorcerers take a different approach to magic than their Mage counterparts. Rather than mastering the elements, they focus on pure arcane energy manipulation. Their spells can ignore resistances, their efficiency with mana is unmatched, and their ability to steal buffs from enemies makes them unpredictable adversaries.


Unlock

The Sorcerer is a tier 2 class that is unlocked by leveling the Apprentice class to level 25. As all T2 classes, it retains all of the previous T1 class' skills.


Pros and Cons

Comparisons are made considering classes from the same tier

Sorcerers excel at sustained magical combat with superior MP efficiency. Magic Missile fires three arcane projectiles that can hit multiple targets, while Corrosive Blast deals true damage that bypasses defenses and reduces enemy protection.

Their passive abilities are exceptionally useful: Proficient Spellcasting increases MP refund chances even more than Apprentice's Efficient Spellcasting, Spellmirror can copy buffs from enemies, and Status Affliction improves their ability to land debuffs and apply the Spellmirror.

Though with a slightly higher HP scaling than the Mage, the Sorcerer is still very fragile, and they lack any defensive skills.

  • Weaknesses:
    • Cannot exploit elemental weaknesses
    • Lower raw damage compared to Mage
    • Spellmirror can accidentally copy debuffs at low skill levels
    • No defensive abilities


Stats

Sorcerers balance INT for damage with DEX for accuracy and S.Atk.

INT remains the primary damage stat. DEX is more important for Sorcerers than other casters due to their reliance on landing debuffs through S.Atk.

WIS helps with MP regeneration, though Proficient Spellcasting reduces this need. VIT provides survivability since Sorcerers lack defensive skills.

  • For a debuff-focused Sorcerer:
Prioritize INT and DEX equally. Stop DEX at multiples of 15 for S.Atk bonuses. High S.Atk ensures Corrosive Blast's defense reduction lands consistently and Spellmirror procs more often. Status Affliction amplifies this further.
  • For a damage Sorcerer:
Focus on INT with DEX secondary. Magic Missile spam with Proficient Spellcasting for MP efficiency. WIS for sustain.
  • For a utility Sorcerer:
Balance INT, DEX, and VIT. Focus on Corrosive Blast to shred high P.Def enemies for your party. Survivability matters for longer fights.


Note: Sorcerers shine in fights where elemental weaknesses don't matter. Their neutral damage is consistent regardless of enemy type.


Gear

Recommended gear for Sorcerers

  • Weapons
    • Staves: If you are interested only in spell damage
    • Wands: The more balanced option, some provide S.Atk bonuses which are very welcome
    • Tomes/Manuals: MP/MP Regen for sustained casting
    • Bucklers: In case P.Def is lacking
  • Armor
    • Light Armor: MP regeneration and M.Def, main option
    • Medium Armor: Possible balanced option, as it provides both P.Def and M.Def, but little of both. You'll lack MP regeneration
    • Heavy Armor: Not recommended using more than 1 or 2 pieces, as they have a negative M.Atk bonus
  • Accessories
    • S.Atk and DEX accessories to improve debuff landing rates
    • M.Atk and INT for damage
    • MP Regen helps but is less critical due to Proficient Spellcasting


Scripts

Default

The default script focuses on multi-target damage and debuffs:

  1. Uses Healing Touch on critically low allies
  2. Uses MP potions when running low
  3. Steps forward if enemies are out of range
  4. Uses Magic Missile against multiple enemies
  5. Uses Corrosive Blast on high P.Def enemies
  6. Defaults to Magic Missile

Ideas and suggestions

These are all suggestions, you can't have 1 script which is perfect for every hunt, gear or playstyle

  • Magic Missile is your bread and butter - use it liberally.
  • Corrosive Blast is excellent against tanky enemies - the defense reduction helps your whole party.
  • Spellmirror works automatically - just keep casting and you'll steal buffs over time.
  • Position in the midline for safety while maintaining spell range.
  • Sorcerers are ideal when you don't know enemy weaknesses or when enemies resist elements.
  • The true damage from Corrosive Blast is particularly effective against high-defense enemies.


Skills

Magic Missile

active | attack | multi-target

A stronger neutral ranged spell that fires 3 arcane missiles. Enhanced by Magic Darts, adding 0~15% M.Atk per missile on top. They will prioritize hitting multiple targets, but can hit the same if only 1 remains. Each missile deals from 50% to 80% M.Atk damage, increased by both skills levels. If it hits the same target multiple times, it only does 75% damage on the consecutive hits. Has another small progressive HIT bonus, 0~10 from Magic Darts plus 0~10, for a max total of 20 additional HIT at maxed skills levels.

Corrosive Blast

An acid vial toss that ignores a portion of the enemies magical defenses and has a chance to apply a P.Def and M.Def reduction, depending on S.Atk. Damage ranges from 100~140% M.Atk, true damage from 10~20%, defense reduction from -10~20 P.Def and M.Def, duration 4~9 rounds and bonus S.Atk +0~10.

Spellmirror

passive

Passive ability. Every spell cast by the Sorcerer that connects has a chance to copy a buff from the target, with the success rate depending on S.Atk. There is a regressive chance to accidentally copy a debuff instead (exceptions are scorch, bleed, and poison), which starts at 30% and reduces to 0 at max skill level. Has 0~10 extra S.Atk when trying to copy. Levels up when a buff is copied.
